After graduating from the University of Houston with a degree in journalism, I began my career as a writer in public relations with ARA Living Centers (a long-term health career corporation).  I later worked for the  Internal Revenue Service in the Office Audit and Appeals Departments.  However, I was not satisfied with my direction.  Something was missing.  I learned about a new teaching program, the Alternative Certification Program in Houston Independent School District.  I was accepted into the program in 1989. Deciding to become a teacher has been one of the best decisions I made.
I started my teaching career at Atherton Elementary in HISD.  I taught third and fourth grades for eight years at Atherton.  I joined Aldine ISD in 1997 to teach at Oleson Elementary as a Math Specialist. The next year I was assigned to be a Lead Teacher and Reading Specialist in fourth grade.  I received a masters degree from the University of Houston in Educational Leadership and Administration in 1999.   The same year I was appointed as Assistant Principal at Oleson.   I served in this capacity for five years until being named Principal at Magrill Elementary in 2004.  In the fall of  2008, I became the Principal at A.W. Jones Elementary the first year the school opened.   Each year has been different yet always rewarding.  I have seen students enter the doors with a look of anticipation and leave in four years with so many expectations for their future.  I truly enjoy watching our students soar like eagles each day.
I spend my leisure time with my husband, three children, and one granddaughter.

I am extremely excited to join the wonderful staff here at A.W. Jones Elementary for the 20017/2018 school year. I’ve been a part of Aldine Family for 17 years. I’ve had the privilege of serving on 3 campuses (Oleson, Conley and Spence Elementary) in the roles of classroom teacher, language arts skills specialist and assistant principal.

I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism Public Relations with a Minor in Communications in 2000 and my Master’s Degree in Educational Administration in 2010 from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.

I have a passion for motivating and inspiring students to be the best that they can despite of where they come from or the challenges they may face. I believe in setting high academic and behavioral expectations for all students.   As an educator, it is my responsibility to foster an environment in which students believe they can learn through the development of positive teacher-student relationships.

Here at A.W. Jones I’m committed to building and maintaining a positive climate in which all students and staff feel valued, supported and appreciated.  I look forward to fulfilling my role in the capacity of servant-leader to all stakeholders.
