Meet our amazing Counselor Ms. Baskin, M. Ed.
Baskin

My name is Maleita Baskin.  I am happy to introduce myself as the counselor at Jones Elementary School. 

        I grew up in Louisiana and Mississippi and attended Texas Southern University majoring in business.  However, business was not my true passion.  So, I went back to TSU and received my Masters in School and Community Counseling.  I spent eleven exciting years as a classroom teacher and have experience teaching 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th-grade students.  Although I spent the majority of my time teaching 2nd grade, I knew that it would be important as a counselor to experience working with students in testing grade levels as well. As a result, I spent two years teaching 4th-grade math and two years teaching 5th-grade math.

        I truly enjoy working with, getting to know, and encouraging all children to reach their full potential.  It is my calling and I work hard to meet the needs of our school to the best of my ability.

Counselor's Role


The elementary school counselor provides academic and social counseling promoting healthy relationships with peers.  The counselor at this level is key in assisting students with identifying their own feelings as well as help students adjust to school.
